lighting rental and services

Lighting is often the most critical element of a successful event, yet sometimes the most misunderstood. In addition without the assistance of a light equipment rental company, it can be poorly implemented. Whether it is a specialty lighting designed to create a certain mood or task lighting critical to functional areas, good lighting can make the difference between a mediocre meeting and a successful one.

Lets define the 10 different types of lighting instruments and attachments.

TYPES OF LIGHTING

Parabolic Aluminized Reflector lamps (PARs) are widely used in events where a substantial amount of lighting is required. They are frequently used in patterns of multiple lights when large areas are to be lit.

Color Gel is a transparent colored material that is used in front of a lighting fixture. Used many times with PARs.

Ellipsoidal spotlights throw a well-defined, concentrated beam of light that can be focused on a particular spot or area from a distances ranging from 20 – 75 feet. They work great in overhead and side positions, and feature a focusable lens.

GOBO derived from “Go Between” or GOes Before Optics is a physical template slotted inside, or placed in front of, a lighting source, used to control the shape of emitted light. GOBOs may be used, in connection with LCD projector and screen rentals. Simple GOBOs, incorporated into automated lighting systems, can create moving shapes. They can be used  in projecting a company logo on a wall, perhaps at a product launching event.

Pin spot is a focused beam of light that shines directly onto an object, perhaps the focus of the event, as a highlight effect.

Followspot, sometimes known as a spot light, projects a bright beam of light onto a space. Followspots are controlled by an audio visual technician who follows the presenter around the room. Followspots are most commonly used in large scale presentations where highlighting a specific, mobile, individual is critical.

LED Lighting can be used to accent lights and backdrops. It provides a way to bring an endless array of color to the event while conserving energy during meetings and events.

Intelligent Lighting
is programmable and can deliver lighting automation and allow the computer to provide the timing of appearance enhancements.

Freshel Lighting is a focusable spotlight used in events which can be adjusted via a knob on the back of the light from “spot” for a narrowly focused beam, to “flood” for a wider beam.

Barn doors, or a set of barn doors, are an attachment fitted to the front of Freshel Lighting. The attachment has the appearance of a large set of barn doors, but in fact there are four leaves, two larger and widening on the outside, two smaller and getting narrower towards the outside. They facilitate shaping of the beam of light from the fixture, and from spilling into areas where it is not wanted, such as the eyes of audience members.
